WeSkate Mongu is a non-profit skateboarding association in Zambia, founded by Johnny Kalenga, who started teaching children how to skate, using the only available skateboard in Mongu. Due to the limited resources, children started showing up for skate lessons with self made skateboards from wood, suitcase wheels or anything they could get their hands on.
16 Of the children donated their boards to help fundraise for WeSkate Mongu, the boards exhibited in front of you today. As a result of a collaboration between Chalk Custom Board Project, La Condition Publique and Wonders Around the World, these precious boards are now made available for sale. Proceeds will be split equally between WeSkate Mongu and the child whom the board belonged to, to pay for tuition, school supplies or specific needs of the family.
WeSkate Mongu inspires children in Zambia to dream big by creating opportunities to discover their potential through creative arts and sports education. Trying to make skateboarding accessible to all, regardless of background, gender or religion, their main mission is to empower the youth.

To provide basic education for those who aren't able to access education, with our edu-skate program, we will be able to help children with homework and extra tutoring in math, English and computer science.”
