María Plata Artskate was founded in 2015 by María Plata, an artist from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain). She started painting skateboards at the age of 18, when she bought a longboard with a design that she doesn´t likes, she decided to sand it and paint it. Then, a local skate shop and an art gallery made a competition with recycled boards, even if she doesn´t won, since then she has not been able to stop painting. Just few months later, a businessman offered her first exhibition.
When she took down the exhibition, she moved her staff to another establishment, so she has already a second exhibition to prepare, and that’s was the topic for 2015 and 2016 with more than 11 exhibitions.
The next year, she begun working by orders, and she have to stop with the exhibitions because she hasn’t time enough attend all the people who want a personalized board, or different staff like tables, clothes, guitars, etc. Customers from the whole country and from places like England, France, Brussels or Dubai for example, contacted her to get his own artwork.
In 2018 she came back to do exhibitions again, this time in Brussels, and she will repeat the experience in 2019 in the same town. This same year, the art gallery of “Diario de Jerez”, one of most important of her hometown, offered her another exhibition, and to finishing the year with the cover of the “Cadiz Zambombas Guide”.
Maria Plata (24 years old) has painted more than 100 skateboards, all of them different, where she wants to tell stories, and where every detail has a meaning. As she used to say, everybody has an own world where everything fixes, and that what she wants to represent, that when you will look one of her boards, it will makes you smile watching your own life.
